“K-Bay” Gold at the “Canada East Wrestling Championships”
On May 11th, 12th, and 13th, two (2) members of the “Kempenfelt Bay” Amateur Wrestling Club competed at the “Canada East Wrestling Championships, 2012”. The “K-Bay” Athletic Club (Barrie) members travelled to the “Cody Banks Arena” in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to participate in this tournament. This event, hosted by “P.E.I. Wrestling Association”, attracted approximately 300 elite age-group athletes from the provinces of Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario. Makela Barker and Ryley Leech wrestled their way to “Gold Medals” in their respective weight classes.

This outstanding result, coupled with all of the outstanding results achieved by the Youth Members of the “K-Bay” Wrestling Club this season, has made this athletic year quite exciting.

On Saturday, April 21/12, twelve (12)) members of the “Youth” team from the “K-Bay” Wrestling Club, participated in the “Ontario” Wrestling Tournament, 2012. These local amateur wrestlers traveled to Coldwater, Ontario to participate in this tournament that attracted over 350 athletes from across Ontario.

“2011 Durham Classic” Youth Wrestling Tournament
On Saturday March 31/12, seven (7) “K-Bay” Wrestling Club members participated in an age-group wrestling tournament. Barrie Wrestlers competed in the “2011 Durham Classic” Youth Wrestling Tournament at Pickering S.S. in Ajax Ontario. This event attracted more than 300 competitors from across southern Ontario. The wrestlers from Barrie had good results at this competition:
First Place: Rayne Lalonde (Novice- Boys 29.7kg, Alyssa Nakeff (Kids – Girls 43.1kg), Gryphon Lalonde (Bantam – Boys 41.1kg)
Second Place : Ryley Leech (Bantam – Boys 56kg), Matthew Eliot (Kids – Boys 54kg)

The Club
The Kempenfelt Bay Wrestling Club was founded by three high school coaches in the fall of 2003. Brad Chestnut and his former athlete Nicholas Cryer, along with Al Emond decided to combine their schools to create a club that was later named Kempenfelt Bay. K-bay started off with 14 wrestlers and now has over 30 wrestlers. Our club travels all over the province competing in events from November through to as late as July. The intense training gets our athletes prepared for tournaments such as GBSSA's, OFSAA, Provincial Championships and National Championships. The clubs members aren't just teammates. Many would say they are more like a family. Although the club is young we are still capable of competing with the toughest competition, and winning. Some of our members have over 70 bouts under there belts and are still just competing in their third year. So please consider joining our crew, team, and FAMILY.
