Cryer’s students captured 15 OFSAA medals including 3 Gold. Twelve of his high school athletes have gone on to compete at the University level or higher. Overall they have captured 30 Provincial Medals, including 13 Gold and 16 National Championship Medals, including 6 Gold. Cryer was named Coach of Team Ontario and helped the team to a first place finish at the Sparta Cup in Puerto Rico. As head coach of the Kempenfelt club, Cryer is extremely proud that three out of four of this year’s top athletes at the National Training Center (Brock University) were former wrestlers of the Kempenfelt club. As well, one athlete from the Kempenfelt club went to Mexico for the Pan American Games and another was in Hungary for the World Championships.

I was introduced to the sport of wrestling by my grade 9 football coach. I took to the sport of wrestling like a fish to water. After a successful high school wrestling career, winning several championships, my wrestling ended when I graduated high school. Years later, I was looking for a sport that my children could join, and I found wrestling again. The sport teaches so much about yourself, fosters teamwork and life skills that will proved valuable over and over again. I have coached my children for the last 7 years from my club, New Tec. I came to the realization that my children’s skills were advancing beyond my ability to keep up, so I enrolled them at K-Bay Athletic and Wrestling Club where they worked under Head Coach, Nick Cryer and his staff. This move to K-Bay provided my son with a wealth of coaching experience which enabled my son to work his way to the podium at the Canadian Nationals Wrestling Championships where he was awarded a Bronze Medal.
